Tears

Aliza was all pumped to have a daddy-daughter night with Steve tonight. Her school was having their Literacy Night, which basically meant ANOTHER fundraiser masked as FUN to every 6 year old. She was dying to go, and even paid $6 of her own money to buy a pizza for Steve and her to share (I refused to budge...three times this month was enough "fundraising" for me). So Grace, Gavin, and I ate the chili I made earlier that day, and Aliza and Steve were off to have "fun" at the school. . . . . Fast forward to 8pm and their arrival home. Aliza is bawling, and I'm already aware of why. THE WII. Yes, every child that attended Literacy Night was, in fact, hoping to come home with a free, brand-new WII. Aliza is no stranger to the WII, and was (I'm sure) trying to finangle Steve into buying huge amounts of raffle tickets in order to win it. And surprise, surprise, they didn't win. I immediately hugged her and told her that 150 kids all wanted a WII too, and that 149 of them went home dissappointed, just like her. This didn't stop the tears, but I eventually distracted her by telling her I'd read her new book if she got ready for bed. Minutes later, no more WII talk and a happy little girl bounded down the stairs. Victory!

Linsday, you are a great mom!!! What a heartbreaker for Aliza...but that's the thing I love about children...they move on pretty quick!

Isn't it funny how easily kids are distracted? It is the best tactic to get them headed in a different direction!
